The initial evaluation Spectrum undertook on the complete Brumby’s network has given us a clear indication of what characteristics make our stores successful and this has inturn clarified what we should be looking for when assessing new locations. Battery World are a Brisbane based franchisor with over 80 stores located nationally across all states and territories. They have been operating for over 10 years and have grown to be the largest and most comprehensive Australian retail franchise network focusing on the sale of all types of batteries and related products.

Battery World Australia engaged the services of Spectrum Analysis in late 2007 to undertake detailed analysis of our existing franchised territories that provided an insight into existing store sales and the variables of population, number of businesses, estimates of employment and demographics. From this point, Battery World were able to work with Spectrum Analysis to formulate and map viable territories across the country as well as re-assess existing franchised territory boundaries.
 
The benefits of the work has included:
 
  • We no longer have to struggle with difficult to use mapping software 'in house'
  • We have formulated clear plans on which areas we focus on with our recruitment campaigns for new franchisees
  • We have a clear understanding of what constitutes a franchised territory that will provide a new franchisee with every opportunity to be successful
  • We no longer spend time on handling queries from potential franchisees who are going into areas that do not 'stack up'
  • We have been provided with an interactive mapping disc that enables us to easily see - with the click of the mouse - at regional level our existing and vacant areas and to drill down on detailed territory maps
 
Following the mapping exercise, Spectrum have also provided 'Data Packs' on our existing franchised areas. These enable our Marketing Department and Business Development Managers to work with our franchisees so they fully understand the characteristics of their territories and to tailor a local sales and marketing programme to suit.

'Beds R Us' are a bedroom furniture retail group comprising over 150 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
 
Before dealing with Spectrum, it was so hard to get answers out of anyone and know that we were receiving information we could trust. Spectrum Analysis make it so easy to get the results and get them fast. Their turn around is incredibly fast and they are a very efficient and professional company to deal with. Operating under a licence agreement means we have a lot of members to keep happy and it is very rare that our members are not happy with the first draft that Spectrum send to us.

Kwik Kopy Australia use Spectrum Analysis to prepare and review the Principal Trade Areas (PTA's) of our franchisees.
 
This ensures that the PTA's are of sufficient size to support a franchise and at the same time allow room for system growth. Total Tools is a National Franchise network of 24 retail stores operating in the Industrial & Trade tools market. Total Tools retails the major tool and machinery brands as well as operating its own extensive import program.
 
Spectrum was very clearly able to show us their analytical tools, methodology and successful history of working with leaders across the retail industry to achieve the same outcomes we sought.
 
Given the existing Total Tools network was well established and trading viably, our brief to Spectrum was to first analyse the consistent demographic factors of each location.
 
Spectrum would then take this data and project forward the national network potential in terms of total store numbers whilst allowing for a defined and viable working territory for each.
 
Another prime goal for us was to achieve an independent view of territories which the existing network would readily adopt.
 
Spectrum was able to deliver these outcomes through a combination of their research, methodology and feedback from our organisation.

Beaumont Tiles in Victoria is very strong in regional areas -- as we cover pretty much most of the major regional areas -- but lacks real penetration into the metropolitan market. We have a need to expand our chain of stores in metropolitan Melbourne. This would help deliver us the markets we are not touching today and deliver us the marketing dollars and the even spread of stores to service the Melbourne market properly.
 
However, this expansion would be very costly if we were to put stores into under-performing areas. For us to expand with confidence, we really needed to eliminate the “wet finger in the air” theory behind deciding where stores should go.  This is where Spectrum’s services have made it very clear in our minds where we should be going.
 
We can go in with confidence and with priorities on which areas we are targeting first. Spectrum were easy to deal with throughout the process and communicated well. I would have no hesitation in using their valuable service again.

Retravision Northern Limited - 150 stores located throughout Queensland and Northern NSW. Retravision Northern are a market leader in the Electrical Appliance Industry with Retail Sales for the group exceeding $500,000,000 per annum.
 
Spectrum Analysis were contracted by Retravision Northern to undertake an in-depth review of the Retravision Northern network of stores, and to recommend a store network plan for South East Queensland.  The work undertaken by Spectrum Analysis provided the Group with a clear network and footprint plan that is now serving as the blueprint for future store development.  During the process, we found Peter Buckingham and his team to be extremely professional in both the survey work undertaken and in the final report prepared for the Group.

Bob Jane T-Marts is an independent Australian business comprising a national network of franchised and company owned retail stores. Bob Jane T-Mart stores sell tyres for passenger vehicles, 4WD's, light trucks and vans as well as an extensive range of wheels and reliable batteries. We also perform expert wheel alignment and wheel balancing services using the latest technology.
 
We have been utilising the services of Spectrum Analysis for almost ten years, and I have been the main contact since 2004.
 
Over these last three years, we have made hundreds of requests for maps and demographic summaries for specific locations across Australia, to assist us in identifying potential sites for future Bob Jane centres, and to assess the demographics surrounding each T-Mart store. This work included a complete run of demographics for our entire 130+ network in 2005 (and again updated in 2007 -- with the latest Census 2006 data).
 
Furthermore, both in 2004 and again in 2007, we have also had Spectrum create full-size wall maps of each capital city (including our centres and the locations of our major competitors).
