Dear ,
It Is The Time For 'Strategic Planning'
We all come back from our Christmas / New Year break, and many of us spend January in the "Planning Phase". The Board asks us for our plans, and we have to put forward what we understand is in the Corporate Business Plan (but in more detail). Our expertise at Spectrum Analysis is to MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD! Whilst this can be a challenge for some --- we do take it very seriously!
Last year, I spoke with you at the CMAA Sydney Headquarters in conjunction with Big Dave Staughton on the 19th May. Our message to you is that unless you understand some simple parameters about your Club, it is hard to make the best decisions on going forward. Knowing where your members live and what demographics you service are essential for your major capital and expense decisions and your local area marketing moving forward.
Please follow the link HERE (or click on the attached file) for more information on what you can achieve, and we look forward to working with you in the future.
The saying that if you Fail to Plan, you Plan to Fail has real meaning if you are a Manager in most businesses.
Call us to see how we can assist you.
QLD Floods on NearMap ... Highly Recommended
I thought I should tell you about NearMap, which we are finding is really great to use. It is like Google Maps, however far more up-to-date, and you can look at the same view at different dates. Really interesting to look at new estates and how many houses are being built, or just check out your neighbour’s renovations! Try looking at your own house and you may see your dog, untidy backyard or if the pool is clean or dirty.
More relevant to the last couple of weeks however, is that the NearMap team have uploaded their latest images (dated 14 Jan 2011), based around the QLD Floods regions. Click on the link HERE to see just how extensive the flooding has been in some areas. Here is just one example:

Image 1 shows the areas around Tennyson and Rocklea, dated 12 September 2010.

Image 2 shows the same area, dated 13 January 2011.
Census 2011 Update
In the lead up to 2011, we at Spectrum are already thinking about the new Census that will be conducted next year (9th August). The ABS is always looking to improve the Census, both in terms of its content and its accessibility and usability, and we participate in forums and other interactions with the ABS to represent our views and those of our clients. We will preview some of the expected changes here, and keep you updated over the course of the coming year.
One of the innovations in the next census will be a new set of geographies, where the basic unit will change from Census Collection District (CCD) to Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1). The 2006 Census had about 38,000 CCDs, but the 2011 Census will have 55,000 SA1s, improving the resolution of the data (click HERE to learn more).
The 2011 Census will ask the same set of questions as in the past, but other data releases are planned, including:
- Labour Force Status by Hours Worked
- Labour Force Status of Parents
- Count of Dependant Children in Family
- Count of Non-dependent Children in the Family
- Count of all Children in the Family
- Sex of Lone Parent
- Number of Persons Usually Resident in Dwelling

How Many Vehicles Pass My Site?
One of the fundamental components of many retail destinations (whether they be 'impulse' or 'destination') is the overall exposure to the surrounding market, and one of the biggest ways to calculate this is via the level of Vehicular Traffic that passes by each day.
Here is the information you can source yourself from the various state / territory government departments:

Unfortunately, there is no free data available (you can make individual purchases, or acquire the total traffic count database for approx. $10,000).
