Peter Buckingham CFE, CMC, FIMC - Managing Director

Peter is one of the co founders of Spectrum Analysis in the mid ‘90’s, and responsible for its growth and securing the variety of large and small clients we enjoy.

He joined Spectrum full time in 1999 following twenty years experience in the oil industry, in a multitude of roles. These include various levels of management and specialised work in Strategic Planning and Network Development.Working in Caltex Australia Ltd., his experiences included Manager of Western Australia, Country Sales Manager in three states, and Property Manager for Victoria. Peter has international experience working in the design and implementation of the sales prediction modelling for Caltex International, now used also by Chevron and Texaco internationally.

In 2007, Peter was accepted as a Fellow of the Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) ... the highest level attainable. The new FCA 'Franchise Professional' system is operated by the FCA Franchise Academy, and available only to those with suitable qualifications and experience. Peter was also awarded his Certified Management Consultant (CMC) by the Institute of Management Consultants in 2010.

As well as managing the company, he still enjoys being an active participant in many projects, handling most of the specific site evaluations we are asked to perform for major retailers.

Peter Buckingham has considerable experience in public speaking on various topics related to the work Spectrum performs and broad marketing issues in general Peter has spoken at the Franchise Council of Australia’s National Conference on 3 separate occasions, and to most of the state FCA conferences. He has also been a keynote speaker for the Property Council of Australia, and many of Spectrum’s major clients National Conferences. The topics Peter normally addresses include:

Sure Fire Site Selection – a discussion on the decision process in selecting a store. This topic covers small networks thru to large networks, and includes a real life discussion using a KFC example (with permission of KFC) on how you can do a Market Analysis. Some of the practical knowledge also comes from Peter’s oil industry background.

Nine tips to great site selection – this address follows the basic lines of the E-book that can be downloaded for free on our website.

How many territories & Defining territories made easy – this can be handled in 2 parts and assists companies in the strategic decisions around establishing territories and how to do it so that each territory has similar demand. This methodology has been used by 2 of the largest banks in Australia in establishing their home loan franchises.

Will you survive in a mature, competitive market – a thought provoking topic looking at the changes occurring in retail as sites become bigger and more efficient. Peter uses his oil industry knowledge to draw comparisons to most other mature businesses, where site numbers are ever decreasing, and the remaining sits are becoming more efficient and cost competitive. This speech relates to most mature businesses.
